Hi,

I'm a student that had designVUE recommended by my project leader to use as part of a certain university project.
He sent me a .jar file apparently containing a beta for designVue.
Double clicking that didn't work, and I seperately downloaded VUE.

Now when I try and open maps my project leader has created, some open, some don't.
The ones that do have no nodes or images displaying.

Any ideas?
Is designVUE meant to run seperately or is it a plugin that somehow needs installing?

Thanks
Ibraheem

Hi Ibraheem,

Do you have Java installed? That is the most likely reason why your designVUE .jar file does not run. You need to go to the Java website and follow their instructions: http://www.java.com/en/download/index.jsp.

It sounds like you have downloaded and installed the original VUE. Files created in designVUE are not backward compatible with VUE. They will only run in designVUE.

Best regards,

Thanks for the reply Helen.
Yes I have java installed - is there an exe file that I should be opening the .jar file with?

And just for reference, I just had a java popup telling me to update to the latest version, so I am now running Version 6, Update 29.

Ibraheem,

It is an executable .jar file that runs on double-click. If you can't run it, the problem is that your system configuration is not recognizing executable .jar files.

This http://www.wikihow.com/Run-a-.Jar-Java-File is a good source of troubleshooting for Java .jar files. If you try everything on that page and it still doesn't run, ask me again.

Best regards,

Helen

Thanks for that, I've got it working now.
Double clicking the file was opening it in a completely irrelevant program.
Did a right-click open with and chose the Java platform option - did exactly what it was supposed to do.

Tried some files that were examples for my project and they worked perfectly.

Thanks again,
Ibraheem

What is a function of «Text Wrap» in Edit Menu?

Text wrap automatically wraps the node text as you type.

This feature has bugs yet to be fixed, but some users still prefer it.

How do I export to HTML all of the maps associated with the map I am doing the export from? If I export to HTML from a map with wormholes to other maps, the links to those maps are not working.

Context
designVUE Beta Vesion 1.24
OSX 10.10.2 Yosemite

Problem
When I generate HTML (File Save as HTML) for maps the URLs to linked maps use + rather than spaces to separate words.

Workaround
Search and replace plus signs for each saved file with spaces. I think this addresses Keith's problem as well.

I did run into the sign-in problem on this laptop, to answer this post - I finally found the right "forgot password" button, and they sent one to me, which I then used to sign in. However, it's almost impossible to remember. I have looked all over in my account and can't find a place where I am able to actually change the password. I would think it would be under "Edit your Profile" but there is nothing there for changing the password. Seems like a strange omission. Does anyone know where it can be changed?

Thanks again!

Hello all,
from where exactly may I download the most current designVUE? Thanks in advance for your reply.

Best,

Diego

PS, The links addressing the "designVUE beta release - NEW!!!" from the "Announcements" section, (directing to the Imperial College in London), actually require a Login ID & Password but provide no means of registration to the site...

I am unable to open/run the designVUE jar file (v.1.24), even after following the instructions closely and updating Java SE Runtime to latest edition. The suggested remedy pointed to on the support page (http://icwww.cc.ic.ac.uk/design-engineering/research/engineering-design/engineering-knowledge-and-data/designvue/support/), http://www.wikihow.com/Run-a-.Jar-Java-File, is far too obtuse and generic for me to follow, which seem to assume a deeper level of understanding of Java than I or most might have. Any suggestions on how to get this working?
