Hello.

When saving a concept map as an interactive web graphic (HTML), I cannot seem to search any key words on the map (in the webpage). The key word search tool (Exploration Tool) is exceptional in VUE. Does none of this funcationality (opacity, expand selection, etc) carry over to the web? Minimally, is it even possible to keyword search any of the node information (ie: node titles) once it is a webpage?

Thanks,
Melissa

In the current HTML export, the map is an image so keyword search is not possible.

Thank you for your quick reply. Do you know if this is on the books to be upgraded any time in the near future? I ask because I don't want to overlook this amazing tool for my project but may need to until the webpage is searchable. I would be willing to create a work-around until VUE has this feature if it is something on the plans.

(keeping my fingers crossed)

We have an upgrade of VUE done, not yet released, but this isn't part of it. I also have a next generation rewrite of the HTML export half-done but Exploration Tools aren't part of that, it does export more data from the map and so searching and highlighting wouldn't be too difficult to get to, but we definitely wouldn't get to anything like the opacity fading and expanded selection.

Thanks for getting back to me, Mike. I'll be excited to see the search tool when it is available. I keep trying other mind mapping software and I just don't see how they compare. I have found this product to be outstanding and will keep the hope that upgrades along these lines will at some point be in VUE's future.

Thank you,

I thought I would explain the project a bit as it might help to understand the request/need (& perhaps you might have other ideas for a work around?).

I have created a very large map (currently w/ around 100 nodes (all with several sub-compartments inside each node that have notes or hyperlinks)). The map is expected to quadruple in size as the project nears completion. I want to have others able to view it and click on the information (but not be able to edit it). Because of its size, searching for a specfic peice of information becomes difficult without text-searching. The opacity/expanded selection would just make the search completely amazing.

I'm a little uncertain about VPK packaging & how it works. Do you think that posting a VPK to a webpage would be a possible work around? Or can you think of other ideas I may have missed?

Thanks again,
Melissa

If you posted a VPK on the web, someone could download it, open it and VUE and be able to use a map and all its resources. You can't block editing.

Thanks again!

One last question:
What about installing the VUE applet on my own webserver? Would an applet potentially get me over this hurdle for now?

Thank you,

It would, although again not read only someone could manipulate the map. I tend to think applets are more trouble then they're worth but if you need a workaround this may work.
