Due to its unique feature set designed specifically for learning and teaching, I expect this to become my favorite mind-mapping thought processing tool. I would greatly appreciate having a simpler visual field.

Visual simplification can be achieved through a variety of means including collapsable nodes. However, this is but one of many solutions.

The most elegant solution is demonstrated by the Personal Brain, which uses a modified hyperbolic interface which simplifies the visual field by limiting the link depth and using a hyperbolic interface. See http://www.thebrain.com/.

A open source project exists for customizing a variety of hyperbolic interfaces. This includes an elegant way of displaying collapsable nodes (see Tree View). This hyperbolic interface and others can viewed in the prefuse gallery at: http://prefuse.org/gallery/

All the best,
