I tried to install Vue on another machine with Vista : no problem.

Then I uninstalled all instances of Java on my machine and tried to reinstall VUE : It didn't go.

Roland, this sounds like a permissions problem or corrupted JVM (Java Virtual Machine). It's hard to tell what's the precise cause without additional information.

You may want to try reinstalling your Java Runtime (from http://java.sun.com).

Try the JVM test on the Sun Java web site:
http://www.java.com/en/download/help/testvm.xml

What does this test report?

Hi Nokolai,

I uninstalled JAVA,
then reinstalled it (Java 6 update 5)

I tried the test : The JVM is correctly installed and functions correctly !

This information may help :
I still have VUE version 2.0alpha2b19 running on my machine.
I tried to remove and rename the folder before installing the new versions : no success !

Is it possible to get the new version of VUE without the self install procedure ?
Just the new files to replace in the Vue folder ?

I just came back from vacation and noticed that you haven't gotten a reply from us. Apologies about it.

You can download a "generic" JAR version of VUE, which does not need to be installed from our nightly builds page:

Just an update... The latest VUE installer available from the VUE web site is packaged with an updated JVM. Please try it and let us know if it resolves your issue. Also, we have a special version of the installer which generates additional debug information. You may want to try it as well:

Hi,
I downloaded the last update of Vue (2.1.34) from http://releases.atech.tufts.edu/vue/
I extracted the executable file and replaced the executable in the Vue folder :
And now I have a functionnaly soft !!

Thank you very much !

So it seems to be an install problem and not a vue issue.

Sorry I didn't try the latest VUE Installer !

I am glad it worked out. In general, VUE works just fine when run directly from the JAR without being installed. However, you don't get the benefits of file extension associations, heap size optimization, icons, etc if you go that route.

Hi
I have recently performed two installation of Vue, one on a XP computer the other on one running Vista. Both installations went okay but I found that I could not use Save or Save As on the Vista machine. Both the icon on the desktop and the icon in Program Groups are pointing to vue.exe. If I change the properties to point to vue.jar everything works. The XP installation uses vue.exe. I do not mind but can anyone offer an explanation?

One thing that comes to mind is that vue.exe contains JVM version 1.5.something and runs VUE in it. When you run vue.jar directly, you are loading it in the default JVM on your Windows installation (most likely 1.6.something). It is possible that the permissions of these two JVMs are different on your system for some reason... Did you check the permissions on VUE.exe?
