Running latest version of VUE on Ubuntu 8.04. Whenever I try to add additional resources I get an error "Error instantiating Provider support".

The window to add additional resources open and shows "directory shortcut", "my saved content", "RSS feed" and "FTP" and then shows the "loading..." status until I force it closed.

Any thoughts, observations?

Are your running VUE with sudo or have you configured the permissions on the /Library folder? See the release notes for more info.

Have had the same problem,

Partly resolved: have done what you said previously + have given permission to the whole repertory tree to myself => I can see the list of resources providers.

Now, I have the following error:

"Loading Manager Failed", (seems that the download is correct...)

Thanks for your help.

PS: I'm running Ubuntu 8.04 with sunJava 1.6 JDK => I have had to remove your jre in order to have VUE functioning correctly... (some options windows where shown in Grey, without any interface tools in it, and the main windows cannot fit the entire screen...)

PS: Have tried the same work around on my laptop, which is running Ubuntu 8.10 with sunJava 1.6 JDK, and then it's working fine! What is the difference between Ubuntu 8.04 and Ubuntu 8.10? is it really the key?... Next update in 7 days... I will wait for the new Ubuntu, then I'll be able to told you if it was sufficient to resolve the problem...

Pascal,

If you do a java -version do you have the same update of JDK 1.6 on Ubuntu 8.04 and 8.10 and if so what Java 1.6 update is it?

So I have found just a little difference between both distribution:

- OpenJDK Runtime Environment and OpenJDK 64bit Server VM, both build on 1.6.0.0_0-b11 (Ubuntu 8.04),
- IcedTea6 1.3.1 Runtime Environment and OpenJDK 64bit Server VM, both on build 1.6.0.0_0-b12 (Ubuntu 8.10).

Not a big difference, but seems to be enough to disturb the system...

Will try to install IcedTea6 (actually IcedTea7 on Ubuntu 8.04) or the lastest Java from SUN...
