Hi, I posted a note about a bug concerning my problem with saving file, which makes VUE unusable for me. Is there any chance that I could download the previous version while the problem is resolved?

Thanks

John,

I've sent you a link to the version I think you'll want through private message on the forum. But, if you can please open a dos prompt in XP, and cd to the directory where VUE is installed and run it from the command line using the following command:

java -jar VUE.jar

then reproduce your error, and send us the exception from the dos box. It'll help us debug this for the future, we've seen a problem like this on Vista do to incompatibility between vista and jvm version, but I've never seen anything like this on XP.

Sorry for the lag in reply on your previous post, as you can see we've been transitioning to the new forum software.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi, thanks, did that. I managed to capture the whole DOS output, which may be more use, see attached.

I tried the link to the older version but got "The requested resource (/pm/inbox.page<br) is not available." error.

Thanks again.

Hi again.

1. Forget the problem I had with the link, I misunderstood what you meant.
2. However, I uninstalled v2.2.4 and installed 2.2.3, only to find that I couldn't save a file with that either!! Which narrows it down a bit.
elps
Hope that helps.

When you usually run VUE are you double clicking the .exe or or the .jar file? I'm just trying to figure out if you're somehow bypassing the known good JRE we're packaging with VUE at some point. The call that's failing on you is a generic java call to get a FileChooser, so it's a bit odd.

Thanks,

I'm fairly sure its the .exe file, I just click on the shortcut. The fact that I also get the same problem with the previous version suggest it is nothing to do with the application, more my environment i think.

I have just got bog standard (toshiba) xp setup.

btw, I noticed that the 'log' file might be helpful, do you want that?

Thanks

John,

If you don't mind, can you navigate to the VUE.exe in Program Files\VUE double click that and see if you have the same problem. Not sure what log you are referring to in your previous post, but if you have that send it along.

Thanks,
Mike

Hi. Did that. Same result. Have attached the 'log file' (from the 'help' menu')

I am using 2.2.3v as I assume this is a stable product. I have uninstalled 2.2.4, but there are some residual file left

Thanks for your help.

John,

If you start VUE, and click on the edit menu, the last menu item is "Preferences" this will bring up a preference Dialog, the last Preference in the list on the left is "Enhanced Filechooser". By default, this is checked off, uncheck that box. Shutdown VUE, and restart it, this *may* be a workaround for your problem. There seems to be an issue when java goes out to build a native windows filechooser, this will instead cause VUE to use Java's less featured filechooser, I think this may help until we can find a better solution.

No joy I'm afraid. I don't understand why it is a problem with version 2.3, presumably everybody else uses it without a problem?

Perhaps we need to get back to the basics!! Could you send me a simple sample map and where VUE expects to find it. I will save it to this location and see if a. VUE can open it, b. resave it.

I really like the look of VUE, it is just what I have been looking for, really want to get it to work.

Thanks

John,

Can you open a dos prompt in windows and type 'winver' at the command prompt, and send us what the output it. I'm trying to figure out if this is somehow related to your specific windows sp level.
