Hi. I just want to announce that I've filed a bug report asking for vue to be included in ubuntu's main repositories.
I've built a .deb package that works fine, but it is obvious that many dependencies are included as part
of the .jar file, and these should be kept separately.

I want to ask some of VUE's developers to subscribe to this bug and to contribute by creating a standard supported
source and .jar distribution of the program that conforms to Ubuntu's standard with every version of VUE.

Bug report: https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/295485

Cheers.
Ivan.

BTW, when I said "main repositories", I meant official repositories, this would most likely be included in multiverse,
but it is not my call, anyway.

Hi Ivan,

Sounds like a great mini-project. Unfortunately, it does sound like an ongoing release engineering commitment, which we don't have the resources to support presently. As an open source project, we do welcome contributions from the community. So, if you's like to take ownership of this, it will be a great service to the community.

Regards,
Nikolai

Well, I'm guessing most of the requirements that will arise from this are going to be of the
cleaning-up-the-.jar-distributable kind (which could be kept separately since you want a
click-and-run jar for obvious reasons).

If you've been following the other thread, the main issue is that many of the classes
that come with the VUE.jar file are dependencies, and those are handled in
Ubuntu and most linux distributions in a different way. This would most likely
translate into creating a new target in your ANT files (are you using ANT?)
that would build a simple jar with vue-only classes. Then you post that file, and the Ubuntu guys
should take care of the rest. Maybe this work has already been done and such a target already
exists, I didn't check.

Hi Ivan,

We are using ant to make our builds. We have an ant task "jar-core" to create a jar file that contains only VUE classes.

I have posted the VUE-core.jar file which contains only VUE classes. Here is the link
http://releases.atech.tufts.edu/vue/core/VUE-core.jar

best wishes,
Anoop

Hi,
I've been trying to find the appropriate dependencies in Ubuntu for hours.
Sadly enough, there are many that cannot be found and will have to
be added as separate packages.
Anyway, I thought I had figured them all out when I got... this:

(I'll only post the rest if requested, there's no point in adding a huge backtrace here).

Any help?

Hi Ivan,

We had customized the jar for rich text support in VUE. Here is the jar

best wishes,

I just want to remind all users that the .deb file for Ubuntu i386 exists already, although I haven't been able to solve
all the dependency-related problems (some libraries normally included in the .zip file you can download from the web site should
be included as separate packages).

Please, do test this file, and create more .deb's for the .jars that come along with VUE. Being in the repositories of Ubuntu
will certainly gain VUE a whole bunch of new testers, patches and feedback, making the whole development process
much easier for the current developers.

You can find the link to the .deb file if you go to the bug report in Launchpad provided in the first post
of this thread.

I have subscribed to the bug in launchpad, but noticed that the link to the .deb file is broken.
