I don't have it running on this machine, but I've installed the other included (jre 1.5) jvm on Debian Lenny: jamvm.

This loads VUE 2.2.8 quite a bit further than gij, but stalls on line 86 of TextRow.java, which I think reads:

Having read a bit of java docs online, it seems that jamvm is complaining that getBounds() is supposed to return a Rectangle2D, not a Rectangle2D.Float. I'm not too familiar with casting in Java, so perhaps this is OK, but couldn't x/y/width/height members just be used instead?
