I'm a studiant and I'm using VUE since 4 years for mapping my cours.I created a lot of vue map ( near 300) about accounting, finance, right, ....
It's a great projet which help me to understand and to memorize .

My wish is to view and modify my Vue map on a mobile ( phone, pda, ...), I asked the question to launch vue on Java ME, but its not possible for the moment.

Actually, when I'm travelling, I'm bringing printed copies or I consult exported SGV's maps on my mobile phone ( with big screen ).

I wish to export automatiquely maps when they are saved .

I wish to convert on the fly maps into svg : VUE is XML file like SVG. Can we use XSLT to tranformate it on the fly?

Excuse me for my poor english.

Topper,

We don't use a XSL to create the SVG we draw the Java Graphics 2D into an SVG Canvas, it was simpler internally for us to do this that way. That said, component-izing VUE to be able to do these sorts of tasks is something we're trying to reach in VUE 3, we already have a demo of going from Map to JPEG with a RESTful web service, so this would probably also be possible for SVG.

Its not available at the moment, it'll be in a future release either in summer or fall. It has dependencies on another project we're working with.

Mike,

Is not it possible to open, save as svg and close a map with command line (I'll just need to create after a batch to export all).

Thanks

+1 for some sort of batch save as / print. (CLI is fine)
Like topper harley I have quite a number of .vue files that I would like to regularly convert, though I would prefer pdf.

Thanks.

+1 Thought I'd bump this topic to see if anyone has come up with a solution over the last few years.

There's some starter code for this in the package edu.tufts.vue.component , Export.java and Import.java . We made SEASR components from VUE at some point, but the same could be applied to a CLI for converting maps.

Thanks Mike.

I have had a quick look at and it seems, at least for a simple map, it works fine. I was able to run it with the following command,

java -cp VUE.jar edu.tufts.vue.component.Export TestMap.vue TestMap.pdf 2

There seems to be a small bug in the export code which forces it to always output to an image.

Attached is a patch file which I think fixes the problem.

Once applied I was able to save ok to a PDF file.

I've tagged this VUE-1757 and confirmed the fix and committed.

I made a wrapper script in perl to make the conversion easier. For a whole folder of .vue files I can now do

and end up with converted and cropped (the maps get strange margins from VUE) pdfs.
I've only tested in Ubuntu 12.04. Perl is required, so is pdfcrop for the cropping. The path to VUE.jar in line 27 should of course be changed to wherever you store your VUE.jar.

EDIT:
Added quotes around "$outfile" in the script to protect filenames with spaces. Silly mistake.
