A nice UI feature I've seen in other tools is the ability to temporarily select a tool while working with another. This can be implemented in a few different ways, but the nicest (in my opinion) is to simply hold the shortcut key of the "temporary tool" until after the mouse begins the operation. Upon releasing the mouse, the tool reverts to whatever had been selected.

Usage scenario: using the link tool on a large number of nodes. One node needs to be moved, so I push "s" down, grab the node with the mouse, and release "s". I can continue dragging the node to its destination. Once I release the mouse button, the tool reverts to the link tool.

Dan,

There are a number of temporary tool activations in VUE for the Node Tool, Rapid Prototyping, Zoom, and Pan. You can find these in the Keyboard shortcuts window, under help, they are admittedly in an unlabeled column which could be a bit confusing. Here is a screen cast showing you how they work:

One thing to note, I always make the mistake of holding 'x' for too long when using it for the temporary node tool, you should release 'x' before you finish the drag so you don't write over the label, it's been a bad habit for me.

Hope this helps.

Mike
