I think it would be great if VUE built-in graph layout algorithms like those in JUNG (http://jung.sourceforge.net/) such as spring embedding. As a developer I would have gladly contributed this but there doesn't appear to be a way to write plugins or extensions. I think allowing VUE plugin extensions would be a tremendous improvement to unleash the creativity of the VUE community and build VUE into a strong concept mapping platform.
Thanks for pointing us to JUNG framework. The current code for layout algorithms in VUE is reasonably abstracted, but developers need to recompile the complete application. I will take your request to the team and we will further explore the possibility.
Wow, thanks for the swift reply. We're building very large concept maps from the concepts in military field manuals and are struggling with the resulting tangle of nodes and edges. I'm considering developing a custom script that would read in the VUE file as XML, use the JUNG graph layout algorithms to alter the node position information and then rewrite the VUE file. Thoughts?
