If restricted users (teachers and students) run VUE, they get "java.lang.Runtime.Exception: C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\vue_2: cannot be created at tufts.vue.VueUtil.getDefaultUserFolder...". If user with local admin rights runs it it works fine and creates the vue_2 folder correctly as C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\vue_2. The restricted users have a folder called C:\Documents and Settings\[username]\ to which they have write access, but why is VUE trying to create the folder in the All Users folder instead?

(system details: Windows XP client running VUE 3.0)

Any help gratefully appreciated as I can't roll this out to our students and teachers till I get it sorted.

Regards
Donald

We're getting the same problem, but it's actually trying to create the vue_2 folder in the folder above the redirected start menu on the server.
\\servername\menus

I've created the folder and given all users full control over it, and VUE launches, but this is still a problem as the folder is then being shared by 100+ users at the same time.

From other forum threads, it seems the location of the vue_2 folder varies. This is causing us a bit of a problem!

We've been giving this problem some thought, it stems from depending on the Java user.home environment variable to determine where to write the folder we're hoping to provide an overrride for this.

Hi Mike,

It would be great if this could be overcome as we are keen to roll out this useful tool. I look forward to an update in due course and am glad to know that someone is looking at this on our behalf.

Many thanks

We made an attempt to address this in 3.0.2
