I'm trying to boot up the copy of VUE that I've download, but the boot up stops with the message "VUE Intuit Failed" the following bit of Java script:

java.lang.RuntimeException: C:\Users\test\vue_2:cannot be created
at tufts.vue.VueUtil.getDefaultUserFolder(VueUtil.java:191)
at tufts.vue.Images.getCacheDirectory(Images.java:2745)
at tufts.vue.Images.loadDiskCache(Images.java:214)
at tufts.vue.VUE.initApplication(VUE.java:1290)
at tufts.vue.VUE.main(VUE.java:1060)

I went into my Java & cleaned out all the old versions but to no avail.

Suggestions?

Chris,

VUE tries to create a folder called vue_2 to store application data. On your machine it appears unable to create the folder due to some permission issues. You could do 2 things here, you could go right click VUE and select "Run as Administrator" (I'm guessing you'r on Vista or Win7?) Alternatively, you could manually create "C:\Users\test\vue_2" in windows explorer. If neither of these two things are possible due to the configuration of your computer, you can do try following these directions from the VUE user manual:

https://wikis.uit.tufts.edu/confluence/display/VUEUserGuide/Installing+VUE+in+a+computer+lab%2C+or+on+a+machine+without+admin+rights

In this case you just set up an environment variable which VUE reads and places the application data accordingly.

Hope this helps,
-Mike

Chris,

I think you'll only need to do that once so it can create that folder, after that I *think* you should be able to just run it normally.
