Ewald,

Can you either attach a map that doesn't open or email it to me at mike <dot> korcynski <at> tufts <dot> edu

Ewald,

Looks OK here, what platform are you using windows/mac/linux? Are you using a particular localization?

As I said, I am using Ubuntu 10.04 which is a Linux system.
What do you mean by "special localization?"

Ewald,

Couldn't replicate on linux, ubuntu 10.04 either. Are you running it with SunJDK6 or OpenJDK? OpenJDK has problems, we recommend using the SunJDK. Special localization was poor wording on my part, VUE has ~18 localized interfaces I was just asking if you're running it as US-English or if you'd changed it from the default so I can mimic your set up.

I used OpenJDK Java 6 as well as Sun Java 6 runtime.

However, what I found out in the meantime: when right clicking on the file and selecting "open with" followed by selecting vue.jar from the context sensitive menue, the map opens correctly. When I start the VUE application using the launcher I created or by right clicking on vue.jar and selecting one either OpenJDK or Sun Java 6 Vue opens and when I try to open the map via File>Open I get the behaviour which triggered me to start this thread. This is true for a newly created map as well by the way.

This kind of solves the problem but I still do have a funny feeling about this.

In the meantime upgraded to linux mint 18, and Vue 3.3 but the behaviour persists:
opening Vue.jar with JDK JRE 7 or Oracle JRE 8 and trying to open any saved map results in a grey screen.

Creating a launcher and opening any saved map via double click and selecting Vue from the menue "open with" results in the map opening correctly.
Attached is another map which showed this behaviour.
